EXPECTATIONS/RULES:
CONSEQUENCES:
If you choose to break a rule, these are the steps I follow:
1. 1st Check - Warning 2. 2nd Check - Call home 3. 3rd Check - seat re-assignment 4. 4th Check - Extra Writing assignment relative to infraction/s and/or referral.
REWARDS:
Those students who continuously come to class on time, prepared, and eager to participate will earn rewards. Rewards come in the form of extra employ-ability points.
GRADE REPORTS:
Using your student number, grades will be posted in the back of the room. Your name will NOT be displayed. They will be updated weekly so you can keep track of your assignments and missing work. Your parents should also use the online access as a way to help you keep track of your grades.
LANGUAGE
What might be okay to say in your house with your parents, is not appropriate here. Part of growing up is learning when and where you can say certain things. My class is a G-rated “Disney” movie. If it is not said in Cinderella, it should not be said in my room. Slang like “You’re retarded,” “That’s gay,” “Shut up”, and whatever new phrases come up, won’t be tolerated.
CELL PHONES
If a cell phone is out without permission, it will be confiscated to be picked up at the end of the day. A second infraction will cause the phone to be picked up by a parent at the end of the day.. The district policy is "Off and Away", and the policy will be strictly enforced.
THE BOOK
This is a folder that I call “The Book” where I keep track of problems that come up in class. If you’re late, you sign The Book. If you throw something across the room, you sign “The Book”. The consequence steps will be followed with each time you sign it per quarter. At the end of the quarter, you start over with a clean slate.
HOMEWORK and AGENDA BOOK:
Homework is that which has not been finished in class due to being off task.
LATE HOMEWORK POLICY:
I generally do not assign homework. If you miss an assignment on the day it’s due, see "absences" below. If you are late in turning in an assignment, you may still turn in the work for ½ credit for a certain amount of time. After that time has passed, it will be a zero.
ABSENCES/MAKEUP WORK:
You will have one day for every day you are absent to complete missing work. When you are absent, please refer to the "What did I Miss" binder. Also, you can use the website or grade sheets posted in the room to see which assignments you are missing.
CHEATING
Anyone caught cheating will have a referral written to a guidance counselor and will receive a zero on the assignment.
TARDY POLICY:
You must be in your seat before the bell rings (no exceptions). If you are late, get to your seat without disrupting the class.
RESTROOM PASSES:
A hall pass is near the door for drink and restroom requests. Restroom requests will be denied during lectures.
QUESTIONS/CONCERNS
You are old enough to know that people make mistakes and everyone one is human…including me. If I make an error grading your paper or logging in a grade, tell me in a polite way. I’ll fix it immediately. Email me or see me after class if you’re confused about something or have a concern about your seat, group partners, or anything. You need to be YOUR biggest advocate and fight for what’s best for you. Just remember to do it nicely.
GUEST (SUBSTITUTE) TEACHERS:
If there is a visiting teacher filling in, they are to be treated with utmost respect. The same rules, procedures, and consequences apply as any other day. Because we appreciate the time and energy they spend on being a guest in our school, we are to make visiting teachers feel welcome and respected. There will be explicit instructions for the substitute to take any names of those who choose to misbehave and the consequence will be equal that of any other day.
